Community

Everyone deserves the opportunity to experience the benefits of ancient wellbeing practices.

At Ishka, we’re committed to serving our community and breaking down the barriers that prevent many people from accessing holistic approaches to wellbeing.

We work to bridge the gap between alternative practices and underserved communities through accessible, community-focused projects delivered in partnership with local organisations.

Our vision is to create inclusive, restorative spaces and share practical tools that support everyday wellbeing - helping individuals and communities feel empowered, supported and able to thrive.

We’re committed to making holistic health practices available to everyone, particularly:

  • Individuals facing financial barriers who may struggle to afford wellbeing services

  • Those who feel excluded or unsure about alternative health due to stigma or lack of knowledge

  • Refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants who may experience trauma, language barriers, or cultural challenges

  • Women and marginalised genders seeking inclusive, supportive spaces for healing

  • People with mental and physical health challenges who might not otherwise access wellbeing support

Our Approach

Outreach:
We work with local partners to offer outreach programmes that are free to participants,  and culturally sensitive - ensuring our services accessible to those who need them most.

Inclusive:

Our materials, event descriptions, and sessions use simple, inclusive and accessible language - so everyone feels welcome and supported.

Affordable:

We offer a sliding scale for the majority of our sessions, to suit different incomes.

Partnership Projects

We partner with Amina, a Scottish national charity, to provide opportunities for culturally sensitive wellbeing practices to women from the Muslim and minority ethnic (ME) community in Dundee.

The aim of this project is to reduce mental health inequalities by introducing Muslim and ME women to breathwork and somatic (body based) practices that lower stress and anxiety and increase emotional regulation, better sleep and overall wellbeing.

Thank you

This project is funded Dundee Volunteer and Voluntary Action’s (DVVA) Community Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund (CMHWF).

Plant Connection Circles LOGO.jpeg

This project was composed of a series of three immersive events in Feburay/March 2026 which explored local plants, personal wellbeing, and climate connection through herbal wisdom, breathwork and sound.

Local community members came together to reconnect with nature and local plants, restore their nervous systems and learn about herbal medicine, plant support, and ecology.

This was facilited in partnership woth local herbalist Wendy Dooner and the project supported local green spaces by donating 100% of ticket sales to community gardens in Dundee, and breaking down barriers to holistic experiences by offering 50% fully funded places to community members.

We partner with Dundee International Women’s Centre to run accessible wellbeing sessions tailored for women, particularly those from an asylum seeker and refugee background.

These sessions provide a supportive space to relax, connect, and explore practical wellbeing tools.

“This project is exactly what I needed in my life just now. It is helping me to connect to my body again when I have had so many years of disconnecting from trauma. I am learning so much.”

“This project helps me to feel safe in my body.”

Thank you

This project is funded by DVVA, The Alexander Moncur Trust, and DIWC.

Our 6-week Red Thread course offers a safe, inclusive space for women to learn about menstrual cycle charting while making reusable menstrual pads.

Cycle charting is a powerful tool for supporting emotional and physical health.

These sessions encourage peer-to-peer learning, build personal connections, and deepen understanding of our bodies and menstrual wellbeing.
